Reconnecting Jackson, Mississippi to the Pearl River
Located immediately adjacent to downtown Jackson, Riverfront Park will transform approximately 30 acres of underutilized industrial land and a former municipal landfill into a regional public park, ecological preserve, trail destination, and civic gathering space. The project reconnects Mississippi's capital city to the Pearl River while preserving valuable riverfront land as publicly accessible open space for future generations.

ADVOCACY + PLANNINGThe Jackson River District Partnership was founded to advance the planning, development, stewardship, beautification, and activation of public spaces, parks, trails, riverfront access, conservation areas, green infrastructure, public art, community programming, and related placemaking initiatives in and around the River District and riverfront areas of Jackson, Mississippi.
From forgotten landfill to riverfront park
Riverfront Park reclaims a former municipal landfill and underutilized industrial riverfront as a public park. The landfill will be capped and transformed into a dramatic public landform overlooking downtown Jackson and the Pearl River, while native landscapes, restored wetlands, riparian habitat, and green infrastructure improve ecological function throughout the site. Recreation and conservation are intentionally integrated, creating new opportunities to walk, bike, paddle, explore nature, and experience the Pearl River while permanently protecting this landscape as public open space.

Connecting Downtown to Nature Through Parks & Trails
Riverfront Park is planned as the anchor of Jackson's expanding parks and trails network. Connected to the Museum Trail Greenway, future River District Connector, downtown streets, and Pearl River trails, the park will become a major destination within a larger system linking neighborhoods, cultural institutions, businesses, public spaces, and natural areas. This connected network creates new opportunities for walking, bicycling, environmental education, and everyday river access while strengthening the relationship between downtown Jackson and the natural landscapes surrounding it.
